Initial Engagement​​​​

  • Review Our Mission & Values

  • Submit an Online Interest Form

    • Provide basic contact info, areas of expertise (e.g., life skills, academics,

      emotional support), and availability.​

Application & Screening

  • Complete the Mentor Application

    • Share personal background, motivation for mentoring, and any prior experience
      with youth or traum

    • Provide References & Consent to Background Check

    • List two personal or professional references.

    • Authorize a standard criminal-record and child-abuse registry check.

Informational Interview​

  • Schedule a 30-Minute Chat with Volunteer Coordinator

    • ​Discuss program expectations, cultural humility practices, and time commitments
      (typically, 1–2 hours/week).

    • Clarify Fit &Commitment

    • Confirm your alignment with Waking Resilience’s core values: empathy,
      consistency, and growth mindset.

Core Training & Certification​

  • Attend a 6-Hour Trauma-Informed Mentorship Workshop

    • Learn basic TBRI® principles (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) and Love &
      Logic limit-setting techniques.​

    • Complete Online Modules

    • Finish two self-paced courses on adolescent brain development and reflective
      listening.

Mentor–Mentee Matching​

  • Fill Out Detailed Profile

    • Highlight hobbies, skills, and preferred meeting formats (in-person, virtual,
      hybrid).​

    • Participate in Matching Session

    • Meet your prospective mentee and their support network for a 20-minute virtual
      “Getting to know you” kickoff.

Ongoing Support & Supervision

  • Bi-Monthly Mentor Roundtables

    • Join peer-mentor groups to share challenges, celebrate wins, and learn new
      strategies.​

    • Access Resource Library

    • Utilize our digital toolkit of lesson plans, conversation guides, and crisis-response
      protocols.

    • One-on-One Coaching

    • Schedule quarterly check-ins with a Waking Resilience supervisor for
      personalized feedback.

Evaluation & Growth​

  • Set Clear Goals with Your Mentee

    • Co-create SMART goals (e.g., “Improve school attendance by 20% in three
      months”).​

    • Track Progress Quarterly

    • Use our simple online dashboard to log sessions, note breakthroughs, and flag
      areas for extra support.

    • Reflect & Renew

    • At the end of each year, complete a self-reflection survey to identify learning
      needs. Enroll in advanced trainings based on your growth plan.
